Tip Leads to Mid-County Drug Bust
Sheriff's officers found 450 marijuana plants plus a pound and a half of cocaine in a Rio Del Mar home Jan. 20 after they followed up on an anonymous tip.

Investigators got a search warrant for the home on Loma Prieta Drive and found all the trapping of a thriving illegal drug trade. Along with the plants and cocaine, searchers found about 10 pounds of marijuana either drying or already processed, scales and $18,500 in cash, said Sgt. Mark Yanez.

They later arrested the home's resident, Ernest Porter, 34, who possessed a medical marijuana referral, for possession of drugs for sale.

"The evidence is overwhelming that this was not just for personal medical use, but for profit," Yanez said.

Officers also found two unloaded guns, which is illegal when located where drugs suspected to be for sale are involved.

Porter has been released on bail.
