New County Planning Director Named
Kathy Molloy Previsich Takes Over Mar. 1
Kathy Molloy Previsich has been appointed as the new Santa Cruz County planning director, announced Susan Mauriello, the county's administrative officer. Previsich will join county staff Mar. 1, replacing the retired Tom Burns.

She will return to the county from her current position as community development director for the city of Morgan Hill. She held the same position for seven years in Capitola, serving as the interim city manager during that period.

"I've been a resident of Santa Cruz County for 23 years, and worked in Santa Cruz and Capitola.

It's a great opportunity to come back home and with a perspective of having worked in different places," she said.

Previsich, 50, attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, drawn by one of the nation's first environmental studies programs developed after the oil spill there, she explained. She then added a double major in economics.

"You have to balance the natural environment with the human environment," she said.

The county cited her wide-ranging planning experience, highlighting efforts to support resident ownership of three mobile home parks, construction of housing for mobility-impaired/traumatic brain injury households and work on housing assistance programs.
Previsich lives in Aptos.

Burns announced his retirement after six years leading the planning department and 30 years working for the county.

Two assistant planning directors are also retiring, giving Previsich the opportunity to shape senior staff.
